Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder volleyball team (17-4, 1-1 CCIW) hosted Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC) on Tuesday night in a non-conference matchup in King Arena. The Thunder defeated the Warriors, 3-0 as the hosts extended their win streak to seven-consecutive victories. Thunder won the first set 25-17 and picked up a 25-14 victory in the second set. Wheaton closed out the match win with a decisive 25-8 victory in the third set.
Jordan Benford and
Ashton Major each led the Thunder with seven kills in the match, with Major posting a .462 attack percentage.
Mary Patrick added six kills, while
Sydney Overweg and Katherin Adkison each recorded five apiece.
Freshman setter
Reese Donahoe led Wheaton with 17 assists and
Lacey Higgins added 12.
Miriam Pozdol-Niego led the Thunder with 12 digs and she also had a team-high three service aces. Benford and Overweg each recorded three total blocks.
Wheaton won the first set 25-17, and never trailed in the victory. Benford and Patrick each had three kills. Donahoe had six assists, while Major had two service aces, and
Sarah Sanderson recorded six digs in the set.
The Thunder never trailed in the second set either as the hosts won 25-14. Pozdol-Niego had all three of her service access for the match in the second set. Benford had a team-high three kills, while
Paris Griffin, Major, Patrick, and Overweg each recorded two kills. Higgins had seven assists in the set.
Wheaton won the third set 25-8. The Warriors briefly led a set for the first time in the third set as the guests led 3-1. Wheaton then responded with nine-consecutive points to take a 10-3 lead. The Thunder continued to pull away in earning the win.
Katherine Adkison and Major each tallied three kills in the final set. Donahoe had six assists and
Kennedy Kemp registered two service aces. Pozdol-Niego had eight digs, while Benford and Donahoe each registered five.
Wheaton travels to Millikin tomorrow night for a key CCIW match against the Big Blue (7-8, 1-1 CCIW) at 7:00 p.m. Tomorrow night's match in Decatur is the first of four-consecutive road contests for the Thunder.
