Thunder volleyball has first 3-0 start to the season since 2018 after wins against Capital and DePauw

Greencastle, Ind. – The Thunder volleyball team closed out its participation in the DePauw University Volleyball Invitational on Saturday. Wheaton earned a 3-0 (29-27, 25-12, 25-20) win against Capital University in the first match of the day for the Thunder. Wheaton closed out the tournament with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-21) victory against the host Tigers of DePauw University. The Thunder open the season with a 3-0 record for the first time since 2018.
 
In the first Thunder match of the day, Wheaton earned a 3-0 (29-27, 25-12, 25-20) against Capital. Three Thunder players tallied double digits in kills. Katherine Adkison tallied 11 kills, with 10 kills apiece by Emerson Traweek and Caroline Capps. Adkison impressed with a .346 attack percentage. Lacey Higgins distributed a team-best 24 assists in the match, while Grace Autry had 21 digs. Sydney Overweg had four total blocks, while Grace Autry and Ashton Major each recorded two service aces.

Wheaton closed out the weekend with its 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-21) victory against DePauw. Caroline Capps led the Thunder in the victory against the Tigers with 18 kills on 36 attempts as she recorded a .389 attack percentage. Traweek tallied eight kills, with six kills apiece for Adkison and Benford. Higgins had 24 assists in the match, while Traweek and Adkison each had three service aces. Autry had 11 digs in the match, with 10 digs for Traweek. Overweg and Major each had three total blocks.

The Thunder return to action on Friday and Saturday at the Wisconsin Lutheran Quad. Wheaton plays University of Dubuque on Friday in Milwaukee, and on Saturday the Thunder will face Wisconsin Lutheran and Monmouth College.
