Hanover Park, Ill. -- The Wheaton men's tennis team returned home after four consecutive road matches to take on the Augustana Vikings in a key CCIW contest this afternoon. Moved indoors due to rain in the Wheaton area, the Thunder and their Rock Island visitors played out Tuesday's conference fixture at Centre Court. Augustana earned an impressive 7-2 road win which confirmed their CCIW record for the season at 4-3 and dropped the Thunder's mark to 11-5 overall and 2-2 in conference action.
The Thunder needed to win four of the singles fixtures after Augustana took two points from doubles play, but the visiting Vikings had too much for the home side to handle on Tuesday.
Senior
Joey Geisz continued his strong form for Wheaton by earning both of the host's points this evening. He teamed up with
Jacob Williams at #2 doubles, and the duo moved to an impressive 14-1 season record in the second spot with an 8-4 victory over their Augie counterparts. Geisz then shrugged off a second-set bagel to capture his #3 singles match at 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 and tally Wheaton's lone point in solo play.
The Wheaton men will take a break from the conference schedule on Saturday afternoon to host UW-Eau Claire for a Senior Day contest on campus. The Thunder will then close out the 2024 home slate against North Central College next Tuesday afternoon.
