GAME STATS Elmhurst, Ill. -- Facing its third road fixture in eight days' time, the Wheaton men's tennis team made the short trip over to Elmhurst University this afternoon to contest its second CCIW match of the year. The Thunder breezed past the hosting Bluejays with a perfect 9-0 result to pick up their first conference win and reach double-figures in victories in 2024, now holding a 10-4 record. Wheaton is currently enjoying a ten-match win streak against Elmhurst, with the local rivals' last victory over the Thunder coming in 2014.
The visitors gained an immediate advantage in Wednesday's matchup, with the home side having to surrender the points at the #3 doubles and #6 singles positions due to a lack of available players.
Jack Booker and
Evan Walther combined for a comfortable 8-2 win at #1 doubles, and
Graham Shelton and
Michael Walmer teamed up for the same outcome at #2 doubles to make it 4-0 for Wheaton.
Despite notable rotation in the lineup this afternoon, Wheaton had no problems in collecting its first conference win this season.
Tim Steiner,
Corin Tang, and
Andrew Winters all enjoyed double-bagel victories in their #1, #4, and #5 singles matches, respectively.
Joey Geisz registered a 6-0, 6-2 win at #2 singles, before
Andrew Jang secured the sweep with a 6-1, 6-4 result in his #3 singles contest.
Wheaton will play the last of four-straight road matches on Friday afternoon, when the Thunder men travel to Waukesha, Wisconsin to take on the Carroll Pioneers.
