Orlando, Fla. -- Playing its third match in as many days, the Wheaton women's tennis team took to the courts this afternoon for the last of its Spring Break contests in Florida. The Thunder defeated MIAA opponents Adrian College by a score of 6-3 to earn a 2-1 record for the week and improve to 11-3 on the season overall.
Adrian won the #1 doubles fixture today, but the Thunder claimed victory by the same 8-5 margin at both #2 and #3 doubles to establish an advantage heading into singles play.
Delaney Canning and
Janet Kondo teamed up for the #2 doubles win, before
Carly O'Leary and
Tatum Thurstone ensured that Wheaton would take credit for two of the three doubles matches.
Alexandra Wachs cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory in her #3 singles duel.
Lydia Adams and Canning jointly secured the most lopsided wins of the afternoon at #4 singles and #6 singles, respectively, by double-bageling their Bulldog opponents. Wheaton's final point on the scoreboard arrived courtesy of
Madeline Gentry, who ground out a competitive 11-9 tiebreaker win at #1 singles after splitting the two sets of her match.
After ending the Spring Break schedule on a high note, Wheaton now has two weeks away from competition before hosting IIT in a non-conference test on March 22nd.
