Hanover Park, Ill. -- Two weeks after its last match that rounded off a Spring Break trip to Florida, the Wheaton women's tennis team returned to the courts to resume its non-conference slate. The Thunder played host to the Illinois Institute of Technology Scarlet Hawks, and just as the team did in last year's meeting between the sides, Wheaton emerged with a 9-0 sweep of its big city opponents. The Thunder's season record is now 12-3, and the squad is enjoying a three-match win streak.
Carly O'Leary and
Tatum Thurstone registered a dominant 8-1 victory at #1 doubles to earn Wheaton's first point of the evening, and
Delaney Canning and
Elizabeth Dieter paired up for an 8-5 win at #2 doubles to give the Thunder an early edge. A match default by IIT at the #3 doubles and #6 singles positions all but assured victory for the hosts.
All five singles matches were won in straight sets by Wheaton's players.
Madeline Gentry tallied a 6-2, 6-4 result at #1 singles, while
Audrey Vick earned a perfect double-bagel of her Scarlet Hawks counterpart at #2 singles.
Alexandra Wachs secured a pair of 6-1 set outcomes in the third singles position, and
Lydia Adams joined Vick on two 6-0 set victories.
Janet Kondo collected the third perfect sweep for Wheaton at #5 singles to cap a flawless showing by the Thunder.
After a comfortable home win, Wheaton will contest its next match one week from today when Roosevelt University arrives for another non-conference affair.
