Winter Haven, Fla. - The Wheaton men's tennis team competed in its third contest in the four-match trip to Florida on Wednesday. The Thunder faced Wabash College (5-5) as Wheaton picked up a 6-3 victory against the Little Giants. Wheaton as now won five matches in a row and improves to 6-3 on the season.
Wheaton's first victory in today's contest against the Little Giants came at No. 3 doubles as the team of
Michael Walmer and
Evan Walther defeated the Wabash tandem of Cole Borden and Ethan Koeneman 8-4. The Wheaton team of
Joey Geisz and
Jacob Williams earned an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles against Tharakesh Ashokar and Rafael Rin. The team score improved to 3-0 once the Thunder No. 1 doubles team of
Cody Ching and
Tim Steiner secured their 8-5 victory against Wabash's Augusto Ghidini and Cole Shifferly.
Geisz increased Wheaton's lead to 4-0 when he picked up Wheaton's first singles win. Geisz defeated Ghidini 6-2, 6-1 in their match at No. 2 singles. Steiner earned a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles against Shifferly.
Andrew Jang rallied to defeat Rafael Rin 2-6, 6-2 (8-6), 1-0 (10-8).
Wheaton concludes its Spring Break trip to Florida on Thursday afternoon against St. John's (Minn.) at 12:30 p.m. (EST) in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
