Hanover Park, Ill. – The Wheaton men's tennis team earned a hard-fought victory in non-conference action against IIT on Friday night at Centre Court Athletic Club. The Thunder (8-3) picked up a 7-2 victory against the Scarlet Hawks (3-9) in the lengthy match.
The Thunder took an early lead 3-0 lead in the team score by sweeping doubles play. Wheaton's No. 1 doubles team of
Jacob Williams and
Joey Geisz earned an 8-4 victory against the IIT tandem of Alann Torres and Davis Housman.
Andrew Jang and
Tim Steiner picked up an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles against Jordan Lauer and Avneet Singh. At No. 3 doubles it was a tightly contested 9-8 (11-9) victory for the Thunder team of
Evan Walther and
Michael Walmer against IIT's Pol Dueso Guell and Nabil Fawaz.
Wheaton earned four more victories in singles competition. Geisz rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 win at No. 2 singles against Torres. Jang picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win against Dueso Guell in their match at No. 4 singles. Walmer was a 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 winner at No. 5 singles against Eduardo Lopez.
Corin Tang of Wheaton earned a 7-6, 3-6, 10-4 win at No. 6 singles.
The Thunder men's tennis team is off until April 2 when Wheaton travels to Lake Forest College for a non-conference match against the Foresters.
