Lake Bluff, Ill. -- The Wheaton men's tennis team returned to action tonight after spending last week away from competition, and the Thunder hit the road for only the second time in 2024 to face the Lake Forest College Foresters. The visitors captured a 6-3 win over their non-conference neighbors to improve to 9-3 on the season and remain perfect against Lake Forest in the teams' last eight matchups. Tuesday's victory also marks the eighth-consecutive positive result for Wheaton, continuing the squad's longest win streak in the last seven seasons.
Jack Booker returned to his usual spot in the lineup for Wheaton tonight and teamed up with
Tim Steiner to earn an 8-4 victory at #1 doubles.
Joey Geisz and
Jacob Williams continued their imperious form as a doubles duo in 2024 with a similar 8-4 result in the second position. The Foresters captured the #3 doubles match in a tiebreak to make it 2-1 in the Thunder's favor heading into singles play.
Steiner secured a personal sweep for the night with a 6-3, 6-4 showing at #2 singles, before Geisz matched his teammate on two wins with a hard-fought 11-9 tiebreak victory at #3 singles despite dropping the first set. Freshman combo
Evan Walther and
Andrew Jang contributed Wheaton's remaining two points with straight-set wins in their #5 and #6 singles contests, respectively. Walther saw off his LFC opponent, 6-0, 6-2, while Jang posted a 6-1, 6-4 match win.
Wheaton's impressive form will be put to the test again on Saturday afternoon when the Thunder head to Kenosha, Wisconsin to take on the reigning CCIW Tournament champions, the Carthage Firebirds, in Wheaton's first conference match of the year.
