Hanover Park, Ill. -- Two weeks after beginning its 2024 season with a win over MSOE, the Thunder men's tennis team returned to Centre Court on Friday evening to face Hope College in another non-conference duel. Wheaton topped the Flying Dutchmen by a score of 6-3 tonight to earn a second team victory of the young campaign.
The hosts gave themselves a good chance of success by capturing all three doubles matches this evening.
Joey Geisz and
Jacob Williams continued their impressive start to the season with a comfortable 8-3 win at #2 doubles, while
Jack Booker and
Cody Ching had the legs to secure a tough 8-6 win in the first position.
Andrew Jang and
Tim Steiner ensured that Wheaton would go three-for-three via an 8-4 result in #3 doubles.
Booker earned a personal match sweep on Friday when he sailed past his #1 singles rival with a pair of 6-3 set wins. Steiner and Geisz faced nearly identical challenges at #2 and #3 singles, respectively, with both of their fixtures being decided by 10-8 tiebreak scores and the former emerging victorious in his battle. Rookie
Evan Walther picked up his first collegiate victory tonight and helped pad the Thunder's win with an impressive 6-1, 6-3 line at #6 singles.
The Thunder's non-conference slate will continue next Saturday afternoon, when Wheaton looks to pick up a third-consecutive win in Hanover Park against Concordia University Wisconsin.
