Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder women's soccer team hosted North Park University (4-5-1/0-1-1) for a CCIW matchup at Joe Bean Stadium as part of Wheaton's Homecoming Weekend. The Thunder and Vikings tied in the match, 1-1. Wheaton is now 4-6-1 on the season, with a 1-0-1 record in CCIW play.
North Park scored the game's first goal in the 39
th minute as the Vikings' Julia Onnerheim received the ball from teammate Caroline Sjostedt. Onnerheim blasted the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. The goal allowed the Vikings to lead the match 1-0 at the halftime intermission. North Park out-shot the Thunder 10-2 in the first half, with each team taking two shots on goal.
The Thunder tied the game up in the 67
th minute as
Grace Crowder scored her fourth goal of the season. Crowder received a short pass from freshman
Fionna Davis and Crowder put the ball in the bottom right corner. Crowder's goal evened the score at 1-1. North Park took seven shots following Crowder', including two shots on goal. Wheaton had five shots in the same span, including two on goal. Neither team scored after Crowder's equalizer as the contest ended at 1-1.
North Park out-shot the Thunder 23-10, including a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal in the match. Thunder goalkeeper
Elizabeth Netz made six saves and allowed just the first-half goal. North Park goalkeeper Philemina Toca made five stops and allowed just Crowder's goal. NPU was awarded three corner kicks and Wheaton had one.
The Thunder women's soccer team travels to Illinois Wesleyan next Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. start in Bloomington.
