Wheaton, Ill. - The Thunder women's tennis team topped Carthage College 8-1 on Saturday morning in a key conference match. Wheaton is now 3-1 on the season, including 2-0 in CCIW play.
Wheaton swept the Firebirds in doubles competition, earning the first three points today there.
Lydia Adams and
Madeline Gentry teamed for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. The Wheaton team of
Janet Kondo and Audey Vick picked up an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles, while the tandem of
Alexandra Wachs and
Tatum Thurstone earned an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Gentry was a 6-0, 6-1 victor in her match at No. 1 singles against Marie Weis. Vick defeated Luana Silva 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Wachs picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles against Sasha Manojlovic. Adams defeated Giovanna Mendes 6-1, 6-2 in their contest at No. 4 singles.
Delaney Canning was a 7-6, 6-1 winner against Victoria Rizzo at No. 6 singles.
The Thunder return to conference action next Saturday at North Park. Wheaton's match against the Vikings is slated for a 10:00 a.m. start in Chicago.
