Orlando, Fla. - The Wheaton women's tennis team played under the lights at the USTA Tennis Campus in Orlando on Thursday evening to face a Piedmont University squad that entered the contest undefeated. The Thunder defeated the Lions 6-3. Piedmont falls to 8-1 on the season, while Wheaton is now 11-3.
Piedmont led 2-1 at the conclusion of doubles play. The No 3 doubles team of
Alexandra Wachs and
Lily Anne Van Ye picked up Wheaton's lone doubles victory with an 8-3 win against Piedmont's tandem of Marion Sloyan and Dakota Wilkes.
Madeline Gentry eanred a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles against Piedmont's Abbey Grace Venham.
Audrey Vick defeated Imani Vincent 6-1, 6-4 in their matchup at No. 2 singles.
Abygale Ahn was a 6-2, 7-6 victor against Sloyan at No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles it was Wachs that earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Wilkes.
Janet Kondo earned a hard-fought 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) victory at No. 6 singles.
Wheaton closes out its trip to Florida on Friday afternoon against Wittenberg University.
