Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton softball team hosted Concordia University Chicago (CUC) on Monday afternoon at Ruth Leedy Field. Today's twinbill was originally scheduled for the Concordia campus in River Forest, however, due to construction on Cougars' home field the doubleheader was moved to Wheaton. Concordia Chicago won today's first game 19-9 in five innings. Wheaton was the victor of the second game with a 13-5 victory in five innings.
The Thunder won the second game this afternoon behind a huge nine-run fifth inning that helped the hosts rally from a 5-4 deficit in earning the 13-5 victory. Wheaton tallied 13 runs, on 14 hits with one error and the Cougars scored five runs, on 10 hits, with four errors. Thunder pitcher
Alese Antonello (3-3) earned the win in five innings as she allowed five earned runs, on 10 hits, with four strikeouts and two walks.
Tiegan Hoffman was 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI and a run scored. Freshman
Kylie Chetakian was 2-for-4, with a run scored.
Abie Brown was 2-for-4, scoring a pair of runs. Antonello helped her own cause with a 2-for-4 effort with a run scored and a RBI. Catcher
Madison Forberg was 2-for-4, with a run driven in.
Olivia Nahorniak, Hoffman, Antonello and Chetakian each hit one double for the hosts.
Concordia scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Wheaton responded with the first of two big Innings as the Thunder scored four runs in the top of the third inning to gain a 4-1 lead. Nahorniak and Antonello each hit a RBI-double and Hoffman drove in a run with a RBI-single. The Cougars responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to regain the lead with a 5-4 edge.
Wheaton tallied seven hits in the top of the fifth inning, in scoring nine runs to game a 13-5 lead. Hoffman had the biggest hit of the inning with a three-run double.

Elise O'Neil each collected a RBI-single in the inning. Antonello held the Cougars scoreless in the bottom of the fifth as the Thunder emerged with the run-rule win.
The Cougars won the first game today with a 19-9 victory as CUC scored 19 runs, on 18 hits, with two errors. Wheaton tallied nine runs on 12 hits, with four errors.
Each team scored two runs in the first inning. Chetakian and
Abigail Latka each had a RBI-single in the first inning. The Cougars gained the lead with a 3-2 advantage with a run in the top of the second inning. CUC scored seven runs in the top of the fourth to take a 10-2 lead.
Wheaton responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The fourth for Wheaton was highlighted by a RBI-double for Forberg and a two-run double for Andrews. Concordia-Chicago added nine runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 19-5 lead. A RBI-double for Hoffman highlighted a four-run effort for the Thunder in the bottom of the fifth to trim the CUC lead to 19-9.
Wheaton travels to Rockford for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday. The doubleheader against the Regents starts at 3:00 p.m.
