Loves Park, Ill. – The Wheaton softball team took to the road on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader against Rockford University. The Regents won game one 7-5 in nine innings and the hosts earned the sweep with a 5-2 victory in the nightcap. Wheaton is slated to host St. Mary's (Ind.) on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader at Ruth Leedy Field.
The Regents won the first game 7-5 as the hosts scored seven runs, on 11 hits, with three errors and Wheaton tallied five runs, on eight hits with zero errors.
Tiegan Hoffman was 2-for-4 for the Thunder with two RBI and one run scored.
Kylie Chetakian was 2-for-4 with a run scored for the guests.
Rockford scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Wheaton responded with a five-run second inning to take a 5-2 lead. Hoffman and
Olivia Nahorniak each hit two-run home runs in the second for the Thunder in the second inning. Rockford scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 5-5. In extra innings, neither team scored in the eighth and the hosts capitalized with a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Regents the 7-5 victory.
Rockford won the second game 5-2 as the hosts tallied five runs, on nine hits, with zero errors and Wheaton had two runs on nine hits, with two errors.

Elise O'Neil drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning as the Thunder trimmed the hosts' lead to 3-2. Rockford scored one run in the bottom of the fourth and another run in the fifth to account for the 5-2 final score.
