Wheaton men's tennis begins spring schedule with 6-3 win over Lake Forest

Hanover Park, Ill. -- After splitting their two matches in September, the Thunder men's tennis team began their season in earnest this evening with a contest against Lake Forest College. Meeting indoors at Centre Court Athletic Club, Wheaton dispatched the Foresters by a score of 6-3.

Lake Forest captured the contest's first doubles matchup, but Wheaton answered back with an 8-2 win of their own at the #2 doubles spot courtesy of Joey Geisz and Jacob Williams. The Thunder then pulled ahead 2-1 heading into the singles competition with an 8-3 result for Tim Steiner and Jack Wenzel at #3 doubles.

Steiner earned his second win of the night at #2 singles, besting his LFC opponent 7-5 in the first set and earning a second set bagel. Williams nearly secured a point in the #3 singles slot but fell in an 11-9 third set heartbreaker. Jack Wenzel was consistency personified, taking his #4 singles affair at 6-2, 6-2. Joey Geisz matched that scoreline in the first set of his #5 singles fixture then joined Steiner in earning a 6-0 bagel in the second. Graham Shelton was victorious in the final singles slot, topping his Foresters counterpart, 6-4, 7-5.

Fresh off of their first win of 2023, Wheaton will travel to Wisconsin on Friday to take on UW-Whitewater in the first of three matches the Thunder will contest next weekend.
