Thunder women's tennis team begins spring schedule with 8-1 win over Concordia (Wis.)

Hanover Park, Ill. -- The Wheaton women's tennis team hosted Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday for an indoor matchup to open the squad's non-conference spring season. The Thunder came ready to roll and topped CUW for an 8-1 victory to move to 9-3 on the year after their fall campaign.

Wheaton swept through the three doubles matches. At line two, Audrey Vick and Lydia Adams started the win streak with an 8-6 win over CUW's Phillips and Werning. Madeline Gentry and Abygale Ahn were then victorious at number one doubles via a clean 8-5 result against CUW's Budewitz and Samuta. At the number three position, Lily Anne Van Ye and Alexandra Wachs rallied from a 1-4 deficit to top CUW's Andrae and Moen for an impressive 8-7 (7-5) tiebreak victory.

With momentum on the Thunder's side, the team finished the job in the singles portion of the match. Lydia Adams was the first to finish her pairing at number five singles with a speedy 6-4, 6-1 victory. Shortly after Adams' win, number four singles player Alexandra Wachs earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Philips. Another victory for the Thunder came from line three's Abygale Ahn with a solid 6-1, 6-1 win. At number six singles the Thunder prevailed yet again, as Janet Kondo came through with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. To finish off the match, Wheaton's Audrey Vick rallied for a 7-5, 6-3 win to cap off the Thunder's impressive singles play with five out of six victories.

The Thunder women's team will return to action on March 8th in the sunny state of Florida for the team's spring break series. Wheaton will compete in three non-conference matches on consecutive days between March 8th- 10th before returning home.
