Hanover Park, Ill. -- The Thunder men's tennis team earned its fifth win of the year when Wheaton topped Concordia University Wisconsin in an indoor matchup on Saturday evening. Wheaton won two of the three doubles fixtures and bested their northern opponents in five of the six singles pairings, with their last two points coming from defaults as Concordia (Wis.) was unable to fill out its roster for the match.
Both of Wheaton's doubles victories came via 8-1 scorelines, as the #1 pairing of
Jack Booker and
Jacob Williams and the #2 combination of
Graham Shelton and
David Houlihan cruised past their Falcons opponents.
Tim Steiner fought off his #1 singles rival to claim a 6-3, 6-3 win, while
Jack Wenzel put in a near-perfect 6-1, 6-0 effort at the number two position.
Joey Geisz,
Corin Tang, and
Michael Walmer then picked up solo victories by that same scoreline at #3, #4, and #5 singles, respectively, to clinch the win for the Thunder.
After picking up a comfortable home win, Wheaton's non-conference slate will continue in Florida when the Thunder men's team heads to Orlando for its Spring Break trip. Wheaton's first neutral site matchup is against Wabash College on Monday, March 6th.
