GAME STATS Altamonte Springs, Fla. - The Wheaton men's tennis team started its four-match trip to the Orlando area on Monday. The Thunder opened the Spring Break trip with 5-4 victory against Wabash College (4-4). Wheaton is now 6-3 on the season and today's match was the fourth victory in a row for the Thunder.
In earning today's 5-4 victory, the Thunder jumped out to a 3-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches. Wheaton's first win of the day came at No. 3 doubles as the Thunder tandem of
Tim Steiner and
Jack Wenzel earned an 8-3 victory against the Little Giants' team of Tharakesh Ashokar and Liam Grennon. Wheaton's next win was at No. 1 doubles as
Jack Booker and
Cody Ching earned an 8-4 win against Alvaro Alonso-Sanchez and Cole Borden. The Thunder No. 2 doubles team of
Joey Geisz and
Jacob Williams defeated Wabash pair of Augusto Ghidini and Cole Shifferly 8-5 to complete Wheaton's sweep of the doubles matches.
Wabash scored wins at No. 3 singles, followed by No. 6 singles, no. 5 singles, and then No. 4 singles to take a 4-3 lead in the team scoring. Steiner was a 7-6, 6-4 winner at No. 2 singles against Borden to tie the team score at 4-4. The match came down to the contest at No. 1 singles between Booker and Alonso-Sanchez. Booker won the first set 6-2 and Alonso-Sanchez was a 6-4 victor in the second set. Booker's 10-5 victory in the third set gave Wheaton the dramatic 5-4 win.
The Thunder return to action on Tuesday at noon (EST) with a match against Warner University.
