Thunder women's tennis team sweeps Illinois Wesleyan in conference road match

Bloomington, Ill. -- The final weekend of the Wheaton women's tennis team's fall season began this evening with a trip to face the Illinois Wesleyan Titans. The Thunder cruised past their hosts by a score of 9-0 to maintain their unbeaten streak against IWU since 1994. Wheaton's overall record is now 7-2 for the year and Friday's win lifts the team's CCIW mark to 6-1.

The visitors won all three doubles contests to begin today's conference matchup, with Lydia Adams and Madeline Gentry winning their #1 match by an 8-4 scoreline. Delaney Canning and Janet Kondo paired up at the #2 doubles spot for the first time and were victorious via an 8-5 mark. Tatum Thurstone and Alexandra Wachs made light work of their #3 opponents, sailing to an 8-1 win.

Gentry then claimed her second match win of the evening by capturing her #1 singles fixture 6-4, 6-0. Audrey Vick earned an impressive double-bagel victory at #2 singles, while Wachs was close to matching that achievement with her 6-1, 6-1 win at #3 singles. Adams also went two-for-two on Friday, topping her #4 singles rival with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of her own. Kondo took the #5 match at a 6-3, 6-1 line, and doubles partner Canning posted the third singles sweep for Wheaton today in the #6 spot.

Having clinched a second-place finish in the conference standings for 2023-24, the Wheaton women will look to win their fourth-straight match and end their fall schedule on a high note tomorrow afternoon. The Thunder head to Decatur to take on Millikin in a 1 PM contest.
