Hanover Park, Ill. – The Wheaton women's tennis team (1-1) hosted Luther College (2-0) on Saturday afternoon at Centre Court Athletic Club in Hanover Park. The contest was originally scheduled to be played on the Wheaton campus, but was moved indoors due to storms that rolled through the Chicagoland area on Saturday afternoon. The Norse edged the Thunder 5-4.
Luther's team victory was heavily impacted by the guests winning two of the three doubles matches. Wheaton's lone win in doubles play came in No. 1 doubles. The top Thunder doubles team of
Abygale Ahn and
Madeline Gentry defeated the Luther tandem of Julia Moreno and Renata Martinez, 8-3.
Gentry earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles against Martinez.
Audrey Vick defeated Moreno 6-3, 6-1 in their match at No. 2 singles.
Alexandra Wachs defeated Montserrat Ramirez-Mainou in a 6-2, 6-3 matchup at No. 4 singles.
The Thunder host Lake Forest on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. at the Wheaton tennis courts.
