Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Wheaton volleyball team opened its 2022 season on Friday with a pair of matches at the Calvin Labor Day Tournament, hosted by third-ranked Calvin University. Concordia-Wisconsin defeated the Thunder, 3-0 in Wheaton's first match. The Falcons won by set scores of 25-12, 25-21, 25-13. Wheaton closed out day one of the tournament by facing the host Knights. Calvin defeated the Thunder 3-0 in a 25-20, 25-18, 25-13 victory for the hosts.
In Wheaton's opening match against Concordia (Wis.),
Caroline Capps led the Thunder with nine kills and she had a team-high two service aces in the match.
Emerson Traweek tallied six kills for the Thunder, while setter
Davis Whitehead led the team with 12 assists. Libero
Allie High led the squad with 11 digs and
Faith Bailey had three total blocks.
Calvin topped the Thunder in Wheaton's nightcap, 3-0. Capps and Traweek each tallied nine kills to lead the guests.
Naomi Bunker contributed five kills. Whitehead had a team-high 16 assists in the set and
Lacey Higgins had 11.
Bree Gilbert tallied two service aces and high recorded 13 digs.
Wheaton wraps up the season-opening tournament on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (EDT) against MSOE.
