Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder volleyball team hosted Augustana (6-3, 1-0 CCIW) on Wednesday evening in the CCIW opener for both teams. The Vikings topped the Thunder 3-1 as the guests opened with a 25-21 win. Wheaton showed strong resolve in winning the second set 25-23. Augustana took a 2-1 advantage by winning the third set 25-14 and the guests closed it out with a 25-19 victory in the fourth set.
Abby Lawson recorded a team-leading 11 kills for the Thunder tonight.
Caroline Capps added nine kills with eight for
Emerson Traweek.
Jordan Benford tallied six kills and
Faith Bailey had five.
Lacey Higgins led the Thunder with 23 assists and
Emerson Traweek registered nine. Capps and
Bree Gilbert each added two service aces. Bailey and Traweek each had a team-high three total blocks.
Wheaton returns to action this weekend with three matches in the Albion/Olivet Tournament. On Saturday at Albion College, Wheaton will take on Wilmington College and the host Britons of Albion College. On Saturday the Thunder will play the host Comets of Olivet College.
