Rock Island, Ill. - The Thunder women's tennis team traveled to the Quad Cities for their first CCIW matchup of the season. Wheaton defeated Augustana 8-1 as the Thunder improve to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in CCIW action.
The No. 1 doubles team of
Abygale Ahn and
Madeline Gentry defeated Vikings' team of Hannah Colber and Lily Schoeck 8-3.
Lily Anne Van Ye and
Alexandra Wachs were 8-2 winners at No. 3 doubles against Grace Rider and Michaela Magee.
Gentry was a victor against Schoeck at No. 1 singles as she rallied for a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 victory.
Audrey Vick earned a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles against Caitlyn Hanulikova. Ahn picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles against Magee and Wachs earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles against Colbert.
Lydia Adams defeated Augustana's Natasha Gauerke 6-3, 7-6 in their matchup at No. 5 singles. Freshman
Janet Kondo earned her first collegiate win with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles against Lauren Oda.
Wheaton remains in CCIW play next weekend with a two-match trip to Wisconsin. The Thunder will face Carroll at 3:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon in Waukesha. Wheaton will play Carthage next Saturday in Kenosha in a 12:00 p.m. start time.
