Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder opened the second day of the Marilyn Scribner Invitational with a 3-0 sweep of Loras College 25-17, 25-25, 25-18. Wheaton also recorded a sweep to close the tournament with a 3-0 win against Beloit 25-14, 25-15, 25-14. The Thunder improve to 5-2 on the season and have won their last five contests.
In the 3-0 sweep of Loras to open the day for the Thunder,
Emerson Traweek led the hosts with 12 kills and a team-high 11 digs.
Caroline Capps contributed with 11 kills and
Abby Lawson tallied eight kills. Lawson had a sparkling .538 attack percentage in the match, while Traweek recorded a mark of .478.
Lacey Higgins led Wheaton with 20 assists and
Davis Whitehead registered 15. Wheaton's service game was exceptional in the match with 14 service aces on 73 attempts. Higgins had seven aces in the match,
Bree Gilbert recorded four and Whitehead had 3.
In the victory against Beloit, Capps had a team-high 11 kills, Bunker tallied eight and
Jordan Benford registered seven. Higgins and Whitehead had 17 assists apiece for the hosts. Benford had three service aces for Wheaton lineup that recorded 12 aces on 73 serve attempts.
Allie High led Wheaton with 14 kills and Bunker had three total blocks.
Wheaton opens conference play on Wednesday night in King Arena as the Thunder entertain Augustana in a 7:00 p.m. start.
