Decatur, Ill. - The Wheaton men's tennis team returned to action on Friday afternoon with a conference match at Millikin (11-8, 2-3 CCIW). The Thunder (10-5, 3-1 CCIW) defeated the Big Blue 8-1, as Wheaton starts a stretch of conference road tests over the next eight days to close out out the regular season. Wheaton is at Illinois Wesleyan at 11:00 a.m. for a match against the Titans. The Thunder travels to Kenosha, Wisconsin, next Thursday afternoon for a match at Carthage and Wheaton returns to Wisconsin next Saturday to conclude the regular season schedule at Carroll. The team will participate in the 2022 CCIW Men's Tennis Championships May 5-7 in Kenosha.
Wheaton won all three doubles contests at Millikin this afternoon. The first win of the afternoon was at No. 2 doubles as the team of
Joey Geisz and
Jacob Williams earned an 8-5 victory against Millikin's Clayton Maack and Holden Owens.
Cody Ching and
Jack Booker teamed up for an 8-7 (7-3) victory against Theodor Wolf and Cole Phillips at No. 1 singles.
Jack Wenzel and
Tim Steiner defeated the Millikin No. 3 doubles team of Cory Erickson and James Broach 8-0.
Wheaton's first singles win this afternoon was a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles for Steiner as he defeated Erickson. Geisz followed up with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles against Broach. Wenzel defeated Phillips 6-2, 6-2 in their match at No. 4 singles. Williams was a 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 victor against Wolf at No. 2 singles. Wheaton's final win of the day was a 2-6, 6-4, 10-1 victory for Boooker against Owens at No. 3 singles.
