Hanover Park, Ill. -- The Wheaton women's tennis team could not have picked a better way to honor their seniors than they did on Saturday afternoon. The Thunder rolled to a 9-0 sweep of the North Park Vikings for the second time in the 2021-22 season and ensured that there was plenty to celebrate on the special occasion. With today's victory, Wheaton improves to 12-5 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
All three seniors on the Thunder roster got the chance to earn a win in today's action, and all three delivered.
Sarah Backer triumphed in both her #3 singles match and her #3 doubles match, winning the former 6-4, 7-6 after teaming up with
Lily Anne Van Ye to secure an 8-0 shutout win in the latter.
Talya Wolf cruised to a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 victory in her #6 singles pairing. Rounding out the trio's strong showing was
Bethany Hoogerheide, who combined with
Lydia Adams to earn a point for Wheaton by winning their #2 doubles match, 8-3.
Audrey Vick continued her standout freshman season by overpowering her Viking opponent, 6-1, 6-0 in their #2 singles matchup.
Alexandra Wachs and
