Sanford, Fla. - The Wheaton men's tennis team faced NAIA opponent Cornerstone University on Thursday afternoon. The Golden Eagles won the match 4-0, utilizing NAIA scoring with one team point for the team that wins two or more doubles matches. The contest was shortened when rain moved into the area and the matches at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles were left unfinished.
The Thunder No. 3 doubles team of
David Houlihan and
Cody Ching earned a 6-2 victory against Cornerstone's Daniel Alfaro and Tomas Yacuzio.
Joey Geisz won his first set at No. 5 singles against Jose Oliva, 6-2. Oliva led the second set 4-3 when it was abandoned due to rain.
Wheaton is now 6-3 on the season. Today's contest was the final match for the Thunder in their Spring Break trip to Central Florida. Wheaton returns to action on March 18 against NCAA Division II foe Lewis University at Centre Court Athletic Club in Hanover Park, Illinois.
