Elmhurst, Ill. - The Wheaton women's tennis team traveled to Elmhurst on Wednesday for its first CCIW match of the 2021-22 season. The Thunder shut out the Bluejays (0-1, 0-1 CCIW) by score of 9-0.
Wheaton is now 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in CCIW play. The Thunder return to action on September 14 when Wheaton hosts North Central at 5:00 p.m. for a conference match.
The Thunder No. 1 doubles team of
Abygale Ahn and
Audrey Vick picked up an 8-2 win against the Elmhurst tandem of Julia Kostadinova and Isabella Rahman. At No. 2 doubles the Wheaton pairing of
Alexandra Wachs and
Bethany Hoogerheide bested Elmhurst's June Bering and Bailey Ekstrand 8-0.
Sarah Backer and
Lily Anne Van Ye earned an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles against Megan Engstrom and Brynn Rubacky.
Ahn was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 1 singles against Kostadinova. Vick picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles against Rahman, while Hoogerheide was a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Bering in their match at No. 3 singles. Backer defeated Silvia Barak 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Wachs defeated Ekstrand 6-3, 6-1 in their matchup at No. 5 singles and
Lydia Adams earned a 6-1, 6-1 win against Engstrom at No. 6 singles.
