Chicago, Ill. - The Thunder women's tennis team defeated North Park University 9-0 on Saturday afternoon in a CCIW contest. Wheaton improves to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in CCIW play, while the Vikings fall to 1-4 on the season and 0-4 in CCIW action.
Wheaton opened the match with a 3-0 edge thanks to three victories in doubles action.
Alexandra Wachs and
Bethany Hoogerheide teamed for an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles against the NPU tandem of Mia McLenna and Carla Cazes. Wheaton's No. 1 doubles team of
Abygale Ahn and
Audrey Vick bested the Vikings' team of Lisa Viukonen and Nikolina Kisin 8-3.
Sarah Backer and
Avery Bowman defeated the NPU No. 3 doubles team of Madeline Starr and Olivia DeLuca 8-7.
Wachs earned Wheaton's first singles win of the afternoon with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles against McLenna. Vick followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles against Kisin, and Ahn was a 6-0, 6-0 victor at No. 1 singles against Viukonen. Backer earned a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0Â victory at No. 4 singles against Starr. Hoogerheide defeated Cazes 6-4, 6-3 in their match at No. 3 singles.
Lydia Adams earned Wheaton's final win of the afternoon. She was a 6-1, 6-1 victory against De Luca in their contest at No. 6 singles.
Wheaton returns to action on Tuesday, September 28 as the Thunder host Carthage at 5:00 p.m.
