Mount Vernon, Iowa - The Wheaton volleyball team returned to action on Friday night, participating in Cornell College's "Cornell Classic". The Thunder matched up against Gustavus Adolphus College tonight. The Gusties defeated Wheaton 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 16-25, 25-19). Wheaton (2-5) returns to action in the tournament tomorrow with a pair of matches held at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Wheaton will face Coe at 12 p.m., followed by Wheaton and Cornell at 2 p.m.

Thunder senior Colleen Smith led the Thunder with 14 kills, while Audrey Gerze added nine kills. with six kills for Briley Brogan. Marlee Anderson distributed 21 assists and Mia Staub had 13. Allie High recorded 31 digs, with 16 digs for Gerze and 14 for Anderson. Staub, Anderson and High each had two service aces in the match.
