Wheaton, Ill. -- The two-day 2021 Wheaton Invitational concluded on Saturday evening, and when all the scores from Lederhouse Natatorium had been tallied, the Thunder women's swimming team secured a third-place finish in the six-team event. The final team standings are as follows: 1) UW-Stevens Point: 870.5 -- 2) Olivet Nazarene University: 865 -- 3) Wheaton College: 694 -- 4) UW-Whitewater: 445 -- 5) Augustana College: 347.5 -- 6) North Central College: 50

Senior swimmer Priscilla Min led by example this evening when she topped her 200 yard breaststroke A-final with a time of 2:23.37, continuing her strong start to the season in this event. On the opposite end of the experience spectrum, freshman Katie Yonan also maintained her notable beginning to the campaign by capturing first in the 200 yard freestyle A-final with a 1:54.44 finishing time. She combined with Abby Pardridge, Alex McKeaney, and Rachel Clancy in the 400 yard freestyle relay, and they swam to a second-place finish. Abigail Rutledge swapped in for McKeaney and joined the other three swimmers for the second relay of the day, the 200 yard medley, and this event yielded a third-place finish for Wheaton.

The relay teammates also had memorable solo showings on Saturday. Pardridge claimed runner-up honors in her 100 yard backstroke A-final (59.47), and Clancy put 16 points up on the scoreboard for Wheaton when she came in third in the 200 yard breaststroke event (2:29.90). Rutledge secured a top-four placing in the A-final of the 100 yard butterfly event, posting a 59.90 time mark. Not far behind in the same race, teammate Carolyn Bubar placed sixth after posting a time of 1:01.53. Emily Hahn finished fifth in the A-final of the 400 yard IM, registering a 4:52.52 timestamp. And another freshman, Lulu Franke, snagged second place in the B-final of the previously noted 200 yard breaststroke race, earning a finishing time of 2:36.16.

While the Thunder were ultimately not involved in the down-to-the-wire race for first between Stevens Point and Olivet Nazarene, Wheaton still managed a positive top-three overall finish and can draw motivation from some standout performances across the weekend heading into 2022. 

This weekend marked the last event of the fall for the women's team. After a month out of the pool, the Thunder will return to action on January 14th when they host Millikin in a conference dual meet alongside the men's squad.
