Decatur, Ill. – The Wheaton women's tennis team competed at Millikin University on Saturday afternoon. The match, originally scheduled to be played outdoors on the Millikin campus in the morning, was moved indoors to the local Decatur Athletic Club in the afternoon due to rain. The Big Blue (7-1, 4-1 CCIW) edged the Thunder 5-4. Wheaton is now 6-2 on the season with a 4-2 record in CCIW play.
Millikin gained a 2-1 lead on the Thunder as the Big Blue won two of today's three doubles matches. The Thunder No. 3 doubles team of
Sarah Backer (PICTURED ABOVE) and
Lily Anne Van Ye earned an 8-7 (7-1) victory against the Millikin team of Destiny Galvan and Brianna Barconi.
Bethany Hoogerheide was a 6-4, 6-2 victor in her match at No. 3 singles against Barconi. Backer picked up a win for the Thunder at No. 4 singles. Backer defeated Paige Willer 6-3, 7-5 in their matchup.
Lydia Adams defeated Cristina Borunda with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles.
Wheaton will host Augustana next Saturday at 10 AM in a conference match at the Wheaton tennis courts.
