Men's Golf concludes fall season with third place finish at Taylor event

David Morton led the Thunder to a third-placed finish on Tuesday
Ada, Mich. -- The 2021 fall season for the Wheaton men's golf team concluded on Tuesday, with the Thunder placing third at the Egypt Valley Intercollegiate event in Michigan. The squad was competing against eight other teams as a part of the invitational hosted by Taylor University.

The hosting Trojans finished one spot above Wheaton on the leaderboard with a +20 team mark, and Northwestern Ohio took top honors with a total score of +16 after the three rounds of play. The Thunder registered a +54 team score, some distance behind second place, but also a comfortable margin ahead of Aquinas College, who finished fourth with a total score of +76. Wheaton also finished Day 1 of the event in third place, and there was very little movement in the standings across both days of action.

David Morton capped his excellent fall campaign with a tied-for-second place finish in the individual standings. He led the way for Wheaton after Day 1, and continued his fine form on Tuesday, shooting a 71 in today's round to secure a -1 overall score for the event. Morton was one of only three players at the invitational to shoot below par across both days. Jonah Swartz saw his overall score dip after Monday's play, shooting an 80 on the links for Day 2, but his +14 total tally was still enough to land him a top-15 finish.

After a largely successful fall season, the Wheaton men's golf team will return to the course in the spring of 2022.
