Kevin Riley is named an Indoor Track & Field All-American by the USTFCCCA

Wheaton, Ill. - Wheaton College sophomore Kevin Riley has been named as a Division III Indoor Track & Field All-American in the men's 3,000-meter run by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Riley is the first member of the Wheaton men's track & field program to be named as an All-American in the indoor 3,000-meter run.

Riley was scheduled to be one of 20 runners to compete in the men's 3,000-meter run on March 13 at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. Riley qualified for Nationals on March 7 at the Wartburg Qualifier with a time of 8:30.43.

On March 12, the NCAA announced that all spring championships were immediately canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and participants were unable to participate and earn All-America awards in the traditional manner. Normal policies dictate that All-America honors are awarded to student-athletes who score any portion of a team point (top-eight in the final of an individual event or as a member of a top-eight placing relay event) at the NCAA Championships. In lieu of conduction of the national championship this season the USTFCCCA's NCAA Division III Executive Committee adopted the following criteria to award All-America recognition:
  • Based on the selected participants for the national championships initially announced by the NCAA on Sunday, March 8, the following will be recognized as All-America for the 2020 Indoor Track & Field season:
    • Individual events: ALL student-athletes declared and initially accepted into their event.
    • Relay events: Members of ALL relays who produced the performance that was declared and initially accepted into their event.
