Orlando, Fla. - The Wheaton men's tennis team opened its four-match trip to Florida during Spring Break with a match against SUNY-Oneonta at the USTA Tennis Complex. The Thunder defeated the Red Dragons 6-3, as Wheaton improves to 5-3 on the season with its third-consecutive victory.
The Thunder won two of the three doubles matches with the Red Dragons on Monday.
Andrew Bristol and
Anderson Park teamed for an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles against the SUNY-Oneonta team of Marco Ammirati and Riley Smith. Wheaton's other victory was at No. 2 doubles as the team of
Jeremiah Yi and
Jack Wenzel earned an 8-7 (7-2) win against Jacob Dornsife and Matthew Reinhold.
Yi picked up Wheaton's first win, as his opponent, Dalton Capobianco retired in the second set due to injury. Yi won the first set 6-0. Park was a 6-1, 6-0 winner against Ammirati in their matchup at No. 1 singles. Wenzel was a 6-4, 6-0 winner against Dornsife at No. 3 singles. The final Wheaton victory of the night was a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (12-10) win at No. 5 singles by Bristol as he defeated Smith.
The Thunder return to action tomorrow night against Rhodes College at Sylvan Lake Park. Wheaton takes on the Lynx in a matchup that is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. (EDT).
