Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The Wheaton men''s tennis team traveled to Iowa on Saturday for a pair of matches against foes from the American Rivers Conference. The Thunder closed the trip with a 9-0 victory against Simpson College (1-6) on Saturday afternoon. Wheaton's first match of the day was against the host Kohawks of Coe College. Coe (6-1) picked up a 7-2 victory against the Thunder.
The Thunder now own a 3-3 record on the season. Wheaton travels to Wabash College next Saturday for a match against the Little Giants.
Wheaton shut out Simpson with a 9-0 victory.
Andrew Bristol and
Anderson Park teamed up for an 8-1 victory against Simpson's Reade Reiter and Brett Dewerff at No. 1 doubles. The Thunder No. 2 doubles team of
Jack Wenzel and and
Jeremiah Yi earned an 8-3 win against the Simpson tandem of Matt Turnley and Peter Walkwitz. Wheaton's No. 3 doubles team of
David Houlihan and
Alex Winters earned an 8-0 victory against Aaron Price and Caleb Vasconez of Simpson.
Anderson Park was a 6-1, 6-0 victor for the Thunder at No. 1 singles against Reiter. Yi was a 6-1, 6-0 winner against Dewerff at No. 2 singles. Wenzel picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Turnley at No. 3 singles. Wheaton's
Jacob Panjwani was a 6-0, 6-4 victor at No. 4 singles against Aaron Price.
Andrew Bristol picked up the 6-1, 6-0 win for Wheaton at No. 5 singles against Simpson's Ethan Humble. Fromke defeated Vasconez 6-1, 6-1 in their matchup at No. 6 singles.
Coe defeated the Thunder 7-2 in the opening match of the day. Wheaton's first victory against the Kohawks came at No. 1 doubles as Park and Bristol earned an 8-7 win against the Coe tandem of Rami Hemaidan and Bo Wilson.
Nathan Fruh earned a win for Wheaton at No. 3 singles as he defeated Coe's Jon Lansing 6-3, 6-2.
