Chicago, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw in two overtimes this afternoon at University of Chicago in a battle of nationally-ranked opponents. Wheaton entered the match ranked eighth in this week's United Soccer Coaches Division III Coaches Poll, and Chicago was ranked 15
th in the same poll. Wheaton is now 7-1-1 on the season, while the Maroons are 5-1-1.
The two teams battled through a scoreless first half this afternoon. Chicago attempted seven shots in the first half and Wheaton had six. The Maroons had a 3-2 edge in shots on goal in the opening period.
Wheaton struck first when

Sophia Lindquist about nine yards away from the net. Lindquist's crisp header the found upper right corner of the net to give Wheaton a 1-0 lead at the 76:11 mark of the match (
VIDEO). Chicago responded with a goal just 2:04 later. Adrianna Vera scored for the Maroons on an assist by Bella Mahoney to even the match with a 1-1 score at the 78:15 mark of the match.
A red card was given to a Wheaton player in the 80
th minute as the Thunder competed with 10 players on the field for the final 10 minutes of regulation, as well as both overtimes. Neither team was able to score a go-ahead goal in the final minutes of regulation. Chicago out-shot the Thunder 11-5 in the second half; however, Wheaton had a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal in the period.
Each team took one shot in the first overtime, with one shot on goal for the Maroons. Chicago held a 3-1 advantage in shots in the second overtime as each team had a shot on goal in the period.
Wheaton goalkeeper
Lauren Ketchum made five saves and allowed one goal in 110 minutes of action. Chicago netminder Miranda Malone made five saves in the match, allowing one goal.
The Maroons owned a 22-13 advantage in shots, and a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. Chicago was awarded four corner kicks in the match, with Wheaton attempting two.
The Thunder open CCIW play on Saturday night with a match at Elmhurst College at 5:00 p.m.
