Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer opens home stand with 4-1 victory over Iowa Wesleyan

Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder men's soccer team returned to Joe Bean Stadium on Tuesday evening with a 4-1 victory over Iowa Wesleyan University. The match was the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The victory is Wheaton's 12th-consecutive win at Joe Bean Stadium and moved Wheaton's season record to 3-2. The Tigers fall to 0-4 with the loss. Wheaton will continue its four-match home stand on Friday with a 7 pm kickoff against Albion College.

With wide open play on both ends of the field, Wheaton finished the game with a 21-12 shot advantage including a 16-7 edge in shots on goal. Iowa Wesleyan goalie Trevor Haasis shined in goal for the Tigers, making 13 saves including a second half penalty save to keep the Tigers within a goal at the time of the stop. Hasten Biddlecome allowed one goal and made six goals for the Thunder.

A sloppy opening of the game led to an early lead for the Tigers, when a defensive miscue opened the door for Francisco Javier Saldana to take possession in the box and rip a quick shot that found the net in the 16th minute. Just over a minute later, Wheaton took advantage of a long ball just outside the box when Joey Sopikiotis headed the ball over the oncoming Haasis (VIDEO) and into the net for the equalizer.

The Thunder timed a through ball perfectly in the 32nd minute with Miseker Wingate playing Peter Whallon free into the box (VIDEO) for a tap-in goal putting Wheaton ahead 2-1. Haasis kept the Tigers within a goal in the 56th minute with an impressive parry of Wingate's penalty kick, but the Thunder added a third goal in the 69th minute when Stafford Dowling's pass found Alessandro D'Argento (VIDEO) for a one-touch goal. Dowling added the final tally with 14 seconds remaining by intercepting a Tiger pass in the box (VIDEO) for an easy goal.

Wheaton will continue its home stand on Friday when the Thunder host Albion College at 7 pm before playing host to University of Chicago on September 17 and Washington (Mo.) on September 20.
