Tacoma, Wash. – The Wheaton volleyball team won both of its matches on Saturday at the Puget Sound Premiere tournament. Saturday's sweep gave Wheaton a 3-1 record for the weekend trip to the Pacific Northwest. Wheaton's

Deborah Smith each earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team of this weekend's event.
The Thunder opened Saturday's action with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-22, 25-20) victory against Widener University. Wheaton closed out the tournament with a dramatic 3-2 victory against the host Loggers of Puget Sound (UPS). The Thunder took an early 2-0 lead against the Loggers with victories in the first two sets by identical 25-17 scores. UPS won the third set 25-22 and the Loggers evened the match score at 2-2 with a 25-21 win the fourth set. Wheaton won the decisive fifth set 15-13 as the Thunder rallied from 12-9 deficit in the set and out-scored the hosts 6-1 to close out the set following a Thunder timeout.
In Saturday morning's victory against Widener,
Audrey Gerze and
Emma Sweatman each led the Thunder with eight kills apiece.
Colleen Smith contributed six kills and
Ellie Brown tallied five.
Alecia Funk distributed 18 assists and
Marlee Anderson tallied 14 assists. Sweatman had a team-high five service aces and
Sofia Pluhar had four aces.
Sweatman registered a match-high 19 kills in the victory against Puget Sound. Brown and
Deborah Smith each notched eight kills for the guests. Funk tallied 27 assists and
Mia Staub had 15. Gerze and Sweatman each had four service aces in the match.
Cassie Swiderek collected a team-high 17 digs, with 13 for Sweatman. Gerze tallied 12 digs and Funk had 11.
Deborah Smith had a team-high four total blocks.
Wheaton travels to Milwaukee next Friday and Saturday to compete in the MSOE Invitational. Wheaton takes on Alverno College Friday evening in Milwaukee and the Thunder face Lake Forest and MSOE on Saturday.
