No. 9 ranked Wheaton women's soccer tops RIT 3-1 in the Bob Baptista Invitational

Wheaton, Ill. - The ninth-ranked Thunder women's soccer team overcame an early 1-0 deficit in Saturday afternoon to pick up a 3-1 victory against RIT in the final day of action at the Bob Baptista Invitational.

The Tigers gained a 1-0 lead against the Thunder with a goal by Maddy Bullis in the 20th minute. Bullis' goal came on a long strike from 20 yards out. Thunder sophomore Sara Bakke evened the match at 1-1 with a Wheaton goal in the 38th minute (VIDEO). Her shot towards the center of the goal was deflected into the net. The two teams remained tied at 1-1 at the halftime intermission. Wheaton out-shot the Tigers 11-4 in the first half, including a 6-4 Wheaton edge in shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.

Wheaton gained its first lead just a few minutes into the second half. Freshman Tori Seeland (VIDEO) blasted a long shot from 17 yards out that made it into the back of the net in the 50th minute. Seeland's goal was assisted by Bakke. Sophomore Aeva Graber (VIDEO) put a shot in goal off the crossbar in the 67th minute to extend the Thunder lead to 3-1. Wheaton maintained the 3-1 edge for the remainder of the match. Wheaton increased its possession in the second half with an 18-2 edge in shot attempts for the Thunder, including a 9-0 advantage in shots on goal.

Thunder starting goalkeeper Lauren Ketchum played 79 minutes in net for the hosts as she made three saves and allowed the first-half RIT goal. Madison Lee played the final 11 minutes in goal for Wheaton. RIT goalkeeper Darcie Jones made 12 saves and allowed three goals in her 90 minutes of work.

Wheaton out-shot the Tigers 29-6 in the match, including a 15-4 edge in shots on goal. Wheaton was awarded five corner kicks in the contest and RIT attempted one corner kick.

Wheaton (2-0) travels to Ohio next Friday and Saturday for matches against Capital University and Ohio Northern.
