Women's tennis closes out the regular season with a 9-0 victory at home against Kalamazoo

Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton women's tennis team earned a 9-0 victory at home on Saturday afternoon against Kalamazoo College (8-7). Wheaton improves to 14-5 on the season with this afternoon's win.

Today's match against the Hornets opened with a sweep for the Thunder in doubles action. Wheaton's No. 1 doubles team of Claire Browning and Claire Dibble teamed for an 8-4 victory against Kalamazoo's Laura Hanselman and Sonal Bahl. Sara Magnuson teamed with Nicole Freeman for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles against Helen Pelak and Caroline Norton. Wheaton's third win in doubles play came from the No. 3 doubles team of Bethany Hoogerheide and Emma Westwick as they defeated Ella Knight and Maya Srkalovic 8-7 (8-6).

Dibble registered Wheaton's first win in singles action as her 6-1, 6-0 against Knight victory at No. 4 singles gave Wheaton a 4-0 lead in the team score. Emme Lindquist followed with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Maddie Wojcik at No. 6 singles. Magnuson's 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles against Pelak extended Wheaton's lead in the team score to 6-0. Freeman won her match at No. 5 singles against Kalamazoo's Julia Bachmann 6-3, 6-1. Browning was a 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 victor against Norton in their match at No. 3 singles. Wheaton's final win of the day was a 6-1, 7-5 victory for Westwick at No. 1 singles against Hanselman.

Today's match was the final regular season match on the 2018-19 schedule for the Thunder as Wheaton will travel to Rock Island, Illinois next weekend for the 2019 CCIW Automatic Qualifier Tournament. The winner of next weekend's four-team tournament will earn the CCIW's bid to the upcoming NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament. The second seeded Thunder will face No. 3 Carthage on Friday (April 26) at 3:00 p.m. in the second of two semifinal matches. Top seed Augustana faces No. 4 seed North Central on Friday in the opening semifinal match. Friday's winners will advance to the CCIW Automatic Qualifier Tournament Final on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on the campus of Augustana College.
