Rock Island, Ill. - The Wheaton women's tennis team (15-5) defeated Carthage 5-0 on Friday in a semifinal match at the 2019 CCIW Automatic Qualifier Tournament.
Wheaton's No. 1 doubles team of
Claire Browning and
Claire Dibble defeated Carthage's Sam Ramsey and Angelica Emmanouil 8-3.
Sara Magnuson and
Nicole Freeman earned an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles against the Carthage tandem of Nia Pham and Hannah Haeberle.
Emma Westwick and
Bethany Hoogerheide teamed for an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles against Kira Mautone and Faelan O'Shaughnessy.
Magnuson defeated Ramsey 6-0, 6-1 in their matchup at No. 2 singles. Browning was a 6-0, 6-1 victor against Pham at No. 3 singles.
Wheaton, the tournament's No. 2 seed will face No. 1 seed Augustana on Saturday at 1:15 p.m. in the tournament final. Augustana defeated North Central, 5-0 in Friday's other semifinal match. Saturday's final will be played at the Quad Cities Tennis Club in Moline, Illinois. The winner of Saturday's matchup earns the CCIW's automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament.
