Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton men's tennis team picked up a key 7-2 conference victory at home on Saturday afternoon against Carthage College (13-7/2-3 CCIW). Wheaton has won four matches in a row as the Thunder now own a 7-8 overall record this season, with a 3-0 record in CCIW play.
The Thunder led 2-1 at the conclusion of doubles play. The Thunder No. 1 doubles team of
Josh Cheng and Josh Bristol picked up an 8-3 victory against Carthage's Tripp Schulte and John Nykyforuk. Wheaton's
Jacob Panjwani and
Jack Guenther teamed for an 8-6 at No. 3 doubles against Andrew Antreassian and Fordy Leipold
Wheaton won five of the six singles matches on Saturday.
Anderson Park defeated Carthage's Daniel Moore 6-2, 6-3 in their matchup at No. 1 singles. Cheng defeated Schulte 7-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Alex Winters rallied for an 0-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 4 singles against Nykyforuk. Bristol was a 6-2, 7-5 victor at No. 5 singles against Carthage's Matt Krzewinski and
Christopher Jones defeated Kevin Dunn 6-1, 6-1 in their contest at No. 6 singles.
Wheaton travels to Elmhurst on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. for a CCIW match against the Bluejays.
