Hanover Park, Ill. - The Thunder women's tennis team played its first match of its 2019 Spring Schedule on Friday with a matchup against Calvin College at Centre Court Athletic Club. Wheaton picked up five victories in singles play to earn the 6-3 win against the Knights.
Sarah Magnuson rallied for a 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 victory at No. 2 singles against Calvin's Madeline Brouwer.
Claire Browning was a 7-6 (13-11), 6-2 victor at No. 3 singles against Calvin's Maria Poortenga. Wheaton's
Claire Dibble defeated Calvin's Maya Klopfenstein 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
Nicole Freeman was a 6-3, 6-1 winner against Calvin's Grace Brown at No. 5 singles.
Bethany Hoogerheide won a 6-1, 7-6 (10-8) decision at No. 6 singles for the hosts.
The No. 3 doubles team of
Emma Westwick and Hoogerheide earned an 8-3 decision against the Calvin tandem of Brittany Statema and Grace Brown.
Wheaton is off until March 13 when the team begins its Spring Break trip to Orlando, Florida with a matchup against Aquinas College. The Thunder play three matches in Orlando during the upcoming trip.
