Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton College women's soccer team will host a Sectional of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament this weekend at Joe Bean Stadium.
The Thunder (18-1-2) will host St. Thomas (17-2-3) in the first Sectional Semifinal on Friday at 1:00 p.m. Friday's other Sectional Semifinal match at Joe Bean Stadium will be Carnegie Mellon University (13-5-1) facing Ohio Northern University (18-2-3) at 3:30 p.m. Friday's advancing teams will play each other in a Sectional Semifinal on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. to determine who advances to the NCAA Division III Semifinal December 6 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Wheaton earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. This year's trip to the postseason is Wheaton's 22nd appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament. Wheaton is 56-15-5 all-time in the postseason, with seven Final Four appearances and National Championships in 2004, 2006 and 2007, in addition to runner-up finishes in 2008 and 2011. Wheaton's 54 all-time tournament wins is the fourth-highest among current Division III institutions.
Wheaton opened the tournament last Friday with a 3-0 victory against Webster University in the First Round. The Thunder defeated College of Wooster, 1-0 on Saturday in a Second Round match to advance to this weekend's Sectional.
Wheaton's opponent on Friday, University of St. Thomas (Minn.), hosted First and Second Round matches last weekend. The Tommies defeated Monmouth (Ill.) 1-0 in a First Round match on Saturday. St. Thomas defeated Illinois Wesleyan, 1-0 on Sunday in the Second Round.
Friday's matchup between the Thunder and Tommies will be the ninth meeting of the two programs. Wheaton holds a 7-1 advantage in the all-time series.
Admission for each day is for $6 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens, $2 for ages 3-12. Children under three-years-old will be admitted for free. No free passes (CCIW or Wheaton season passes) will be accepted.
