Thunder women's soccer defeats Wooster 1-0 in the NCAA Tournament Second Round

Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton Thunder women's soccer team defeated College of Wooster, 1-0 on Saturday in a Second Round match of the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament. Wheaton advances to the Sectional Round of the tournament next weekend.

Jensen Ellis scored Wheaton's goal early in the match (VIDEO). The junior scored from just outside the box on a Molly Thorne assist at the 14:48 mark of the match. It marked the second-consecutive match that Ellis scored a key first-half goal for the Thunder. Wheaton out-shot the Fighting Scots 8-2 in the first half, including a 5-1 edge in shots on goal. 

Wooster put some pressure on Wheaton in the second half, particularly in the final 10 minutes. Wheaton held a 10-5 advantage in shots in the second half, including a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. 

Wheaton goalkeeper Lauren Ketchum made four saves in posting the shutout in 90 minutes of work in the Thunder net. Wooster goalkeeper Molly Hutter impressed in the Fighting Scots' net with nine saves and one goal allowed.

Wheaton had 18 shots in the match and Wooster attempted seven. The Thunder had a 10-4 edge in shots on goal. Wheaton was awarded 11 corner kicks in the match and Wooster had seven.

Wheaton will find out its opponent in next weekend's Sectional on Sunday, November 16 at the conclusion of this weekend's Second Round matches. The NCAA will announce the location of the Sectional on Sunday evening.
