Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton women's soccer team faced University of St. Thomas on Saturday in Sectional Semifinal match of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament. The Thunder and the Tommies played to a 2-2 draw at the conclusion of two overtimes. St. Thomas advanced to Saturday's Sectional Final with a 4-2 advantage in the penalty kick shootout.
Wheaton scored first Thunder junior
Jensen Ellis took the ball away from a St. Thomas player and moved the ball to the left edge of the 18-yard box. Her crisp cross found fellow junior
Isabelle Oliver in the front of the net. Oliver redirected the ball to the opposite post and put the ball in the back of the net to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead just 16:19 into the contest (
VIDEO). The Tommies responded six and a half minutes later when Tessa Trettel's goal at the top of the net tied the match at 1-1 at the 22:53 mark of the match.
The score remained 1-1 for the rest of the first half. Wheaton held a an 8-7 edge in shots in the first half, with two shots on goal for each team. St. Thomas was awarded three corner kicks in the first half and Wheaton had one.
The Tommies gained their first lead of the game at the 67.33 mark of the match when Kaley Roberts scored on a header. Roberts' go-ahead goal was assisted by Alexa Oldenkamp. Wheaton's
Sarah Max was fouled inside the 18-yard box at the 86:26 mark of the match. Wheaton was awarded a penalty kick following the foul.
Carney Blake converted the penalty kick to tie the match at 2-2. The match went to overtime less than three minutes later. Wheaton out-shot the Tommies 11-4 in the second half, with a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Wheaton had two corner kicks in the second half, the Tommies attempted none.
Wheaton controlled tempo in the first overtime. The Thunder held a 3-1 advantage in shots in the first overtime period, including a 2-1 edge in shots on goal. The Thunder owned a 2-1 edge in shots in the second half, with Wheaton owning a 1-0 advantage in shots on goal. The second overtime concluded in a 2-2 draw.
Each team made their first penalty kick attempt in the first session. The Tommies converted their second attempt and Wheaton's second attempt hit the post to give the Tommies a 2-1 edge. Each team made their kick in the third round. St. Thomas converted its fourth kick and the final kick of the shootout for Wheaton was stopped by St. Thomas goalkeeper Sarah Pasternak to advance the Tommies to Saturday's Sectional Final.

Lauren Ketchum made five saves and allowed two goals in the match. Pasternak stopped six shots and allowed two goals in 110 minutes.
Wheaton held a 24-13 advantage in shots, including a 9-7 edge in shots on goal. Wheaton attempted four corner kicks in the match and St. Thomas was awarded three.
St. Thomas will face Carnegie Mellon on Saturday in the Sectional Final at 5:00 p.m. Saturday's advancing team will participate in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer National Semifinal on December 6 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Â Â
