Kenosha, Wis. – The Wheaton women's soccer team earned a 5-1 victory at Carthage College on Wednesday night to give the Thunder their eighth-consecutive victory. Wheaton, ranked seventh in this week's Division III Coaches Poll, improves to 15-1-1 on the season with a 7-0-0 record in CCIW play.
Carthage tallied the first goal of the night as Libby Snyder scored off of Samantha Sisto's assist at the 24:01 mark of the match. Wheaton's
Jensen Ellis tied the match at 1-1 just one minute and 41 seconds later. Ellis's unassisted goal evened the match at 1-1 at the 25:42 mark of the contest. Wheaton gained its first lead of the match just one minute and 29 second after Ellis' goal when
Molly Thorne scored off of an
Isabelle Oliver assist at 27:01. Ellis extended Wheaton's lead to 3-1 when she scored off Oliver's second assist of the night at 36:38.
The Thunder led Carthage 3-1 at the halftime intermission. Wheaton out-shot the Lady Reds 15-2 in the first half, including a 6-2 edge in the second half.
Oliver tallied a goal for the guests, off a
Sara Bakke assist, at the 55:39 mark of the match. Oliver's goal increased Wheaton's lead to 4-1. Bakke scored less than two minutes later when she put the ball in the back of the net at 57:35 off an assist by Ellis to give Wheaton a 5-1 advantage. The Thunder held a 10-5 advantage in shots in the second half, with each team taking two shots on goal.

Lauren Ketchum made three saves and allowed one goal in 70 minutes of work in the net.
Madison Lee played the final 20 minutes in the Thunder net. Carthage netminder Sara Lieffrig played 45 minutes in goal with three saves and three goals allowed. Tess Wilson played the final 45 minutes if the Carthage net, allowing two goals.
The Thunder out-shot Carthage 25-7 in the match, including an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. Each team was awarded three corner kicks.
Wheaton closes out the regular season at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday against North Park at Joe Bean Stadium. Saturday's match will be "Senior Night" for the Thunder. A victory or tie against the Vikings on Saturday assures Wheaton sole possession of the 2019 CCIW Championship.
