Chicago, Ill. – The No. 1 ranked University of Chicago volleyball team (22-1) defeated Wheaton on Wednesday night in non-conference match. The Maroons won 3-0 as the hosts won the first set 25-21, defeated the Thunder 25-13 in the second set and UChicago closed out the victory with a 25-17 win in the third set. Wheaton is now 13-11 on the season.
 
Audrey Gerze led the Thunder with eight kills and Colleen Smith added six kills for Wheaton. Marlee Anderson had a team-high 16 assists and Alecia Funk distributed 10.
 
Allie High led the Thunder defense with 12 kills. Ellie Brown had a team-high five total blocks for the Thunder and Deborah Smith added four.

Wheaton returns home on Saturday with a tri-match in King Arena. Wheaton and Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) play in the first match of the day at 10:00 a.m. IIT takes on Kalamazoo College at noon and the tri-match closes at 2:00 p.m. with a  match between Wheaton and Kalamazoo.
